Sarah Blagden

The Charmian Brinson Honorary Lecture is an annual, free lecture where the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CLCC) welcomes an external speaker to discuss a relevant topic of their choice. This year, Professor Sarah Blagden will deliver her talk entitled:

Cancer, the Prequel – Busting the Big C

Sarah Blagden is Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Oxford where she leads OCTO, Oxford’s Cancer Trials Unit, which specialises in Precision-Prevention and Early Detection studies. She is a clinician scientist with a career-long interest in clinical trials, RNA binding proteins and, more recently, cancer prevention.

Sarah leads the collaborative GO-Precise initiative between Oxford and industry partners to translate pre-cancer antigen discovery into prevention vaccines.  This work was recently featured in the Channel 4 documentary Cancer Detectives commissioned by Cancer Research UK.

In her talk,  Sarah will describe the surprises and challenges she and her team have faced in their race to prevent cancer.

This event will be held in-person, with an option to watch via livestream. The talk will conclude with an audience Q&A session. Please click ‘Register now’ to book your place.
