Title: Modern Coexistence Theory and beyond
Abstract: A fundamental problem from population biology is finding conditions under which interacting species coexist or go extinct. I will present results that extend and make rigorous Chesson’s Modern Coexistence Theory and lead to the resolution of a number of conjectures due to Chesson, Ellner, and Palis. Using these results I will prove that environmental fluctuations can rescue species from extinction.
