Abstract
The existence of dark matter has been well established with overwhelming evidence, but its particle identity remains unknown. Significant progress has been made in recent years in expanding the dark matter search to new uncharted territories. In this talk, Professor Volansky will focus on the possibilities to probe dark matter terrestrially as well as indirectly, focusing, in part, on light and ultralight dark matter, which have been argued to be particularly motivated. He will briefly review the current status of the field and discuss new avenues in the search for dark matter.
Biography
Tomer Volansky is Professor of Physics at Tel Aviv University. A theoretical particle physicist, he works on physics beyond the Standard Model, with emphasis on dark matter, cosmology and model building. His research helped establish new strategies for detecting sub-GeV dark matter and informed experimental searches for exotic Higgs decays. He co-founded the NASDUCK collaboration and is a co-spokesperson of the SENSEI dark matter experiment. His honors include the 2021 New Horizons in Physics Prize, an ERC Consolidator Grant, and the Israeli Physical Society prize for outstanding young scientist.
