Our next seminar will be presented by Gaël Kemp who has been working as an intern in DAMTP for the MAGIC (Managing Air for Green Inner Cities) project since June 2019. His work with Prof. Paul F. Linden and Dr. Megan S. Davies Wykes, focuses on studying analytically and experimentally natural ventilation through sash window.
Sash windows, which allow vertical openings at the top and/or
bottom are a common feature in domestic buildings. This study presents a numerical and a analytical model to predict the flow through a sash window. The predictions of these models are compared with water-tank experiments. The conditions for uni-directional and bi-directional flow through the open panels are discussed and the most efficient opening strategies are defined.
