Ovarian cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women. Although the exact cause is unknown, a family history of ovarian cancer increases a person’s risk of developing the cancer. Approximately 5–15% of ovarian cancers are caused by an inherited faulty gene.
In this seminar, two leading experts will discuss their research into the treatment of ovarian cancer.
Professor Bob Brown
Professor Bob Brown is Chair in Translational Oncology in the Department
of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College. He has a joint appointment and is Professor of Translational Oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research. He will present his research into
the epigenetics of ovarian cancer, preventing drug resistance driven by epigenetic mechanisms and a discussion of epigenetic therapies in clinical trials.
Dr Angela George
Dr Angela George is a Consultant in Oncogenetics and Clinical Lead for the Cancer Genetics Unit at The Royal Marsden. She began research into underlying genetic causes of ovarian cancer, and led the implementation of the Mainstreaming Cancer Genetics programme. Her talk will focus on the genetic causes of ovarian cancer and the impact of genetic testing for cancer patients.
