Dr Jamshid Vayghan is Global CTO & Vice President at IBM supporting Vodafone. He is specialized in AI for large enterprises. His multi-disciplinary career, training, education, work experience in 4 continents & different cultures and locations have turned him into a global leader with hands-on, “roll up the sleeves” leadership style, capable of diving into details where required, while still retaining the capacity to look at the large picture & focus on long-term impact of decisions & strategy on business outcomes, customer experience, & cost. He has a Ph.D. in AI, MS degree in Robotics, and BS degree in Chemical Engineering.
Talk Abstract
Throughout history, instruments of trust, such as minted coins, paper money, letters of credit, and banking systems, have emerged to facilitate the exchange of value and protect parties participating in transactions. Most of these instruments of trust required having a middle entity between parties of a transaction to establish trust. Blockchain has emerged as a technology to establish trust in transactions with no dependency on a middle entity.
Like any new innovative technology, blockchain also started with lots of hype and unrealistic expectations. In this talk, I will provide the current state of blockchain by providing a number of real-world situations that it is currently used. I will also cover its origin, characteristics, how it does what it is intended to do, its connection to cryptocurrency, and the ways it can disrupt some industries by breaking some perceived unbreakable rules in those industries. I will also talk about its data management capabilities and how it could be included in an information supply chain.
