Joint CPE-INFORM stand: “The bright, flexible and printable future of electronics” – Great Hall

For the Imperial Festival, the CPE will be collaborating with students from the European INFORM ITN training network (which also researches solution processable optoelectronics).  They will be bringing a range of demonstrations, including flexible device prototypes (i.e. sensors, lighting) from Holst Centre (Netherlands) and Innovation Lab (Germany), to accompany practical activities including mixing luminescent materials and using a glove box.

As part of the stand, activities will include:

  • Creating pictures and messages with UV inks to be displayed in our UV-lit Dark Room!
  • Performing the ‘Glovebox Challenge’ as fast as possible
  • Printed electronics demos
  • Chatting with CPE students and staff about the concepts and applications of printable electronics

Durrant group stand: “Solar Power”

Clean sources of energy are essential for a sustainable future. At the Solar Power stall, ImpFest visitors can talk to scientists in the Durrant group and Electrochemical Engineering group to discover the new materials we work with and techniques we use to harness sunlight and convert it into electricity and solar fuels such as hydrogen. Visitors of all ages can engage with our exhibit to learn about the importance of solar energy conversion and the challenges that must be overcome to create the next generation of efficient solar cells and water splitting devices. With interactive learning opportunities, including our FlappyPV game and H2-powered remote-control car, there is something for everyone. Those with more advanced scientific interest can also gain insight into our materials analysis with a miniature model of one of our optical techniques.
