What is Hospital Episode Statistics (HES)?
HES is a database containing details of all admissions, outpatient appointments and A&E attendances at NHS Hospitals across England. This data is created as part of routine care and is submitted to allow hospitals to be paid for the care they deliver. HES Data is designed to enable secondary use, which is use for non-clinical purposes such as research.
Who is this event for?
This event is aimed at researchers who use, or are interested in using, hospital data for research. No prior knowledge of HES is required. The event will contain research talks along with presentations from senior staff at NHS Digital on the structure of HES and how to make successful applications to obtain access to data.
