Short Abstract

People are familiar with successful brands, which are often the name(s) of the people who founded the firms involved. They are household names but nobody really knows who they are. My father was Bill Russell, co-founder of the domestic appliance maker, Russell Hobbs. I aim to write his biography but find this is not an easy thing to do. I’d like to share some of the problems involved!

Brief Biography

Nicholas Russell is Emeritus Reader in Science Communication at Imperial College and was Head of the (then) Department of Humanities from 2005 to 2008 and Head of its Science Communication Unit from1995 to 2008. He has degrees in plant science and the history of science and technology. His London University PhD analysed the practice of improving farm and racing livestock in England in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
