AB - Results are presented for reactions of the type K<sup>-</sup>p → K<sup></sup>(890)(Nπ) at 10 GeV/c, where the K<sup></sup>(890) resonance is produced in association with a nucleon-pion system. It is found that: (i) Of the five measurable density matrix elements, only two are non-zero. In particular, the imaginary parts representing interference terms between opposite parity exchanges are consistently zero. (ii) In the non-charge exchange channels, K<sup>-</sup>p → K<sup>-</sup>(Nπ)<sup>+</sup>, natural and unnatural spin-parity exchanges are equal. In the charge exchange K<sup>0</sup>(890)(pπ<sup>-</sup>) channel, unnatural spin-parity exchange dominates. (iii) The differential cross sections, dσ dt′, are steeper for unnatural spin-parity exchange than for natural spin-parity exchange. (iv) A t-channel isospin separation reveals that isovector exchange to I(Nπ) = 3 2 is dominant and that for I(Nπ) = 1 2, I = 0 exchange is stronger than I = 1 exchange. (v) Combining the t-channel isospin decomposition with the separation of definite spin-parity exchange, the isovector exchange is found to contain about 50% natural and 50% unnatural spin-parity components. © 1975.
