Our researchers regularly engage in outreach events which bridge the gap between the scientific community and the public. Through these events we hope to demystify scientific topics, spark curiosity and inspire the next generation or scientists and innovators.

Bringing Public Engagement activities to schools

Partnering with Big Ideas, an education charity, our researchers brought topics presented at the Great Exhibition Road Festival to children in local schools. This included showcasing current research and ongoing projects, including interactive displays, 3D brain models, and more!

Craving Clarity Podcast

Craving Clarity is a 10-part podcast series founded by a team of neuroscientists with an interest in addiction research. The podcast's objective is to amplify historically marginalised perspectives within the field of addiction research, and explore its global dimensions. The team is made up of neuroscientists from Imperial College London and the University of Surrey.

The annual Great Exhibition Road Festival is a celebration of science and the arts in South Kensington. Every year our researchers deliver a range of interactive activities and engagement sessions to communicate their science in accessible ways.

In2STEM placements

With In2Science our researchers have offered year 12 students a week long placement in their labs. The programme equips young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to excel in STEM.

Pint of Science is a global science festival that aims to bring scientists and the public together in a casual and accessible environment. Our experts have hosted a number of talks about their field such as investigating and targeting synapses in the Alzheimer's brain.

Sixth form mentoring scheme

Partnered with the Ark Academy in Wembley, the mentoring scheme provides support to Year 12 students studying STEM subjects. We aim to foster a nurturing environment for scientific exploration, and to equip students with a diverse set of skills to strengthen their university applications. The outreach programme was established in 2020 by our researchers and has grown in numbers each year.
