About the Work Experience Programme

The Year 12 Work Experience Programme offers students an insight into research as a career in biomedical research. The Departments of Brain Sciences, Infectious Disease, Immunology and Inflammation, and Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction will provide taster sessions, demonstrations and hands on activities. Students will experience working life from the daily commute to managing their time and navigating a professional environment, all whilst gaining a fantastic insight into the exciting world of biomedical research. While the programme content varies yearly, past participants have seen a brain dissection, and engaged in demonstrations from the Parkinsons Tissue Bank and the MRI scanning team. In addition there are specialist talks about careers, interview skills and writing an effective personal statement for university, and an academic-style conference at the end of the week where students will work in small groups to give a short oral presentation about their time on the programme.
