The People and Culture committee of the School of Public Health is a diverse and inclusive team of academics, professional, technical and pperational, learning and teaching and research staff, and students across departments in the School of Public Health. Our aim is to improve the working culture and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) for all staff and students. We work on local and cross-department events and initiatives aligned with the University EDI strategy.
Athena SWAN
The Athena SWAN charter was established in 2005 by the Equalities Challenge Unit (ECU) to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In 2025 the School was awarded the Silver Athena SWAN Award. You can view our most recent Athena SWAN application and action plan.
We have set up 10 working groups within the People and Culture Committee reflecting our current priorities. Their remit is to gather data; to increase awareness, including through events; to address known issues and identify new issues relevant to EDI.
