Requirements for Live Synchronous sessions and Virtual Reality use
- Minimal Broadband, Wi-Fi requirements: at least 50 Mbps, 100+ recommended for a smooth experience
- Phone - access to an Android or Apple smartphone, iOS 15.1 / Android 5.0 or later
- Both your PC and VR headset must be on the same Wi-Fi network to establish a local connection for streaming your screens.
- Minimal Desktop or Laptop Computer requirements
- RAM (8-16Gb)
- CPU: Intel Core i5 or later
- Wireless network card to enable Wi-Fi connection, via 5GHz band (recommended)
- Windows: 11, macOS Big Sur (macOS 11) or newer
- Headsets and controllers - Where possible, the college will provide a single VR headset (Meta Quest 3 or another suitable device) for students enrolled in all Computational Biomedicine programmes (PGCert, PGDip, MSc). There may be countries where shipping or ordering of Meta headsets may not be possible.
- While the headsets are expected to work in most countries (and we will do our best to ship them to non-supported countries) Meta Quest 3 support will only be available in the 25 countries specified by them. A Meta account will be required to use headsets.
- Meta will provides resources for hardware technical support for their headsets and controller during warranty.
- It is the student's responsibility to look after their headsets. If it is broken through misuse or an accident, the student is responsible for its replacement. If a headset or controller fails due to a technical defect, it is covered under Meta warranty.
- The student is responsible for all other accessories (rechargeable batteries, longer cables, head straps etc).
- The course team will provide synchronous session related technical support.
- Students will be provided access to suitable VR classroom environments for synchronous sessions (synchronous sessions (10-15% of total teaching per module) and simultaneously provide access via streaming on MS Teams or other methods for those unable to access use VR based methods.
- Students will be provided with the necessary training to use VR headsets and virtual teaching spaces at the beginning of the course.
- Safety when using VR: It is the student’s responsibility to operate headsets in a safe environment. The college is not responsible for any damage caused by misuse of headsets and controllers.
