The Postdoc Development Centre provides support and development opportunities for postdoctoral research staff at Imperial College. They co-ordinate training and support for all aspects of a postdocs’ career, enabling them to develop transferable skills, discover new talents and expand existing ones.
Postdocs and research staff are a vital and valued group of staff within the Faculty, making a great contribution to our success. Every postdoc at Imperial is entitled to have 10 days training and development per year which can be used to develop personal transferable skills; this can be, for example, by attending courses, becoming involved in outreach work in schools, organising a seminar series, or becoming a postdoc rep for their department. It is considered very important that all postdocs are encouraged to take their full 10 day entitlement each year, in order that they, and we, benefit to the greatest extent from their time as a postdoc at the College.
The Postdoc Development Centre runs 3 day residential events such as ‘Launching your career’- for postdocs 0-2 years, and ‘Building on your career’ for postdocs with over 4 years research experience. All courses are free and open to any researcher at Imperial. They also provide 1:1 support on CV writing, job applications and they run mock interviews (with a 75% success rate on achieving a position following mock interview training).
