UNIVERSITY OF WALES / GLOBAL ACADEMY: Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship (POWIS)
Ph.D. Scholars in the UK: Bioscience. Total scholarship package £100,000.
The University of Wales is inviting applications for outstanding graduates to undertake a Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship (POWIS). POWIS is a new £11 million initiative that is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund provided through the Welsh Assembly Government.
The successful candidate will undertake a 3 year research project based with a fast growing research based company located in South Wales. The project concerns development and evaluation of long term antibacterial coating for the treatment of Iron/Sulphur reducing bacteria. During this period the successful candidate will identify a suitable antimicrobial component, determine the mechanism by which it can be effectively applied to the engineering system and evaluate its long term efficiency against the microorganisms of concern.
Candidates for this position should have a bioscience or materials science background backed with excellent academic credentials in a relevant discipline- a First class bachelor’s degree or a higher degree (e.g. Masters).
The Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship programme is open to all students, whether from the UK, EU or worldwide. Scholarships* cover all tuition fees, reasonable travel costs to and from country, an annual tax-free stipend of £20,000 (GBP) plus a one off research grant of £5,000.
