Global Village Panel Event
Professor Alan Fenwick to Chair Global Village Panel Event 'Nation Building: The Role of the West in African Health, Development and Governance' October 20th at 18.00hrs
The team at A Global Village, Imperial College's publication on International Affairs, would like to invite you to their first panel event of the year - Nation Building: The Role of the West in African Health, Development and Governance
On October 20th (6pm, LT2 IC Business School), a distinguished panel will look at health intervention and assistance in Africa by developed country actors, from building primary healthcare to mass vaccination and drug administration, which crosses into both development and governance. Issues surrounding foreign policy objectives and sovereignty, combined with persistent debate about the best approach to aid, pose some challenging questions in the health arena. Just when does helping amount to meddling?
Our panel includes Prof. David Heymann CBE, Chairman of the Board of the UK Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Head of the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House, Prof. Moses Bockarie, Director of the Centre for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Professor of Tropical Health Sciences at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Andrew Jack, Pharmaceuticals Correspondent with the Financial Times, with chair Prof. Alan Fenwick OBE, Director of the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) and Professor of Tropical Parasitology at the IC School of Public Health. Read more about the bio's of our panelists and register here.
Finally, the new issue of A Global Village is now out. Distribution locations include the IC Library Cafe and central walkway stands. It is also online here.
