Martin McCall and his team have been named third place in Physics World magazine’s list of top 10 breakthroughs for 2011

Martin McCall and colleagues have been named third place in Physics World magazine’s list of top 10 breakthroughs for 2011.

The group was chosen by the judging team for their work which featured in this news item on physicsworld.com – http://physicsworld.com/blog/2011/07/space-time_cloak_becomes_reali.html.

Other winners include Dave Wark (Imperial College Physics Department and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory ) and the T2K team who came 7th and Malte Gather (an ex-PG student and currently a Visitor to EXSS) came 8th.

The top 10 breakthroughs list has been compiled by the Physics World team, who reviewed over 350 news articles about breakthroughs in the physical sciences published on physicsworld.com in 2011. The criteria for judging included:

  • Significant advance in knowledge
  • Strong connection between theory and experiment
  • General interest to all physicists
