Reshaping Healthcare Models: IGHI at World Economic Forum
Lord Darzi, chair of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, led a distinguished panel at the World Economic Forum (WEF) yesterday.
The discussion focused on how can businesses and governments work together to improve the health of citizens in a more cost-effective manner.
The session brought together representatives from the Food and Drug Administration, Harvard Business School, and key business areas in the health sector such as insurance, technology and the pharmaceutical industry.
Participants examined:
· Identifying new modes of healthcare delivery and funding models
· Shifting investment and attention from treatment to prevention
· Turning fiscal crises into opportunities for innovation.
Lord Darzi also launched a WEF commissioned report called ‘Five bad habits of healthcare’, which was prepared in collaboration with the Institute’s Centre for Health Policy. The paper will be published on Feb 6.
Lord Darzi said:
“I am delighted to participate in this important session at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Drawing on behavioural economics, our paper illustrates how irrational behaviour contributes to the problem of increasing health expenditure. It was a lively discussion and I will share my thoughts in a blog post once the our paper has been published.”
