Richard Ghail and Alison Ahearn took part in the Space Settlement Design Competition on 24-25th March at Imperial. Richard's team won: his students will go to the grand finals at NASA, Houston. (Alison's team won in 2009 and the students reported a wonderful experience at NASA). The competition is expected to expand to 6 UK regions next year to meet demand from schools, with Imperial hosting the grand final. Judges include NASA and UK space engineers, Imperial alumni and staff and, this year, Jeff Wayne who composed the space-themed rock opera, The War of the Worlds based on HG Wells' novel. Wells studied at Imperial and was first president of the RCS Association in 1909.
