Prof. Geoff Maitland has delivered the 2012 Rideal Lecture at Cambridge University. The award honours an individual who has made a sustained and distinguished contribution to colloid and interface science.

The annual Sir Eric Rideal Award and Lecture, awarded by the Colloid and Surface Chemistry Group (part of the Society of Chemical Industry) to individuals to honour significant and sustained contribution to the field of colloids, was delivered on 28th March by Professor Geoff Maitland.

The title of the event was “Understanding and applying the colloid science of industrial fluids and soft materials", and Prof. Maitland's lecture, "Oilfield Fluids: Tales of Mud and Worms", was a retrospective look at a long and illustrious career as an expert in the oilfield application of materials.

Chemical Engineering colleagues Dr. Edo Boek and Prof. Alexander Bismarck were also invited to speak at the event, which was held at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.
