Saturday saw the end of term heralded in style, with students and staff donning black tie and dancing the night away to Ms Dynamite and electro-swing at the sell-out Summer Ball.
On the final Saturday of the academic year, Ball guests arrived on South Kensington Campus to find it transformed into a party paradise. Alongside the traditional funfair the Great Hall, the Queen’s Tower Rooms and other parts of College were taken over by performers including Lady V Dubz, Eminima, the Fabulous Lounge Swingers, Monsta and Imperial’s own Big Band.
A fireworks display rounded off the evening, lighting up the sky above the Queen’s Tower and daubing the College buildings in reds and blues.
One of the organisers from Imperial College Union, Deputy President (Finance) Michael Foster said: “I'm very pleased with how the Summer Ball turned out. It was a sell-out event, and everyone I could see was having a great time. My particular highlight was the Bastardos Brothers, getting the room dancing with electro-swing covers of Cee-Lo Green and Beyoncé.”
Despite a few grey skies, 1500 guests turned out to join the party, with all available tickets sold. A number of students even made it to the annual survivors’ photo at 3am.
Fourth year student Richard Simons from the Department of Materials said: “I thought the Ball was great, everything came together really well. My highlight of the night was probably dancing to Monsta in the Great Hall, before the fire alarm went off, I'd never heard them before but their set was awesome; either that or the swing dancers in the QTR, they were really cool.”
For first year undergraduate Carol Ann Cheah from the Department of Bioengineering getting behind the wheel at the funfair was her memorable moment: “My highlight has to be the bumper cars, bar none!.”
To help with preparations for next year, the organisers are asking for feedback from those who attended. Fill in the questionnaire at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NWRWVFG.
