The Environment and Health - from Global to Individual
Sir Gordon Conway spoke about food nutrition and agriculture at a briefing entitled 'Connecting Environments, Nutrition and Health' for Wellcome Trust Board of Governors at Chicheley Hall, Buckinghamshire on 25th June 2012.
Discussion topics for the meeting were as follows:
- What are the key gaps in our understanding of the interactions between environment, nutrition and human health and what are the global challenges in this area that need to be addressed?
- What role can research and translation play in addressing these gaps and the development and implementation of solutions to these challenges?
- Is there enough capacity and sufficient infrastructure to undertake high quality research in these areas? If not, how is this best addressed?
- What is needed to bring research communities together to work on these issues across disciplinary boundaries and how can funders best support this?
- How should the Trust engage with key parts of the environment and nutrition landscape to address these gaps and challenges while retaining a focus on health that is appropriate to its mission?
