A great start for Sport Imperial this new term!

A great start for Sport Imperial this new term

pre-season trainingThe run up to the start of term began with Pre-Season training, the Active Lifestyles team worked extremely hard with the help of their Strength and Conditioning interns to run a very successful 2 week programme gearing up our teams for the start of term.  The training made full use of the Ethos facilities, specifically the new Strength and Conditioning Performance Room in the Squash Courts.  The programme was a great triumph, with many positive comments and participants not wanting it to end.

The first week of term was a busy one for the Sport Imperial team with Freshers Fair and Freshers Sports Trials taking place.  Freshers Fair was the biggest fair to date at Imperial and all of the Sports Clubs were out in force to recruit for what will hopefully be the most successful year of Sport we have seen here at Imperial.  Sport Imperial’s stand was also very busy this year with representatives from Korfball UK, Kukri and we even had a visit from Klara Weaver (IC Boat Club) with her Olympic Torch.  Yet again we had many queries from students about the Gym and it has been very popular as always with inductions filling up fast and approximately a 1000 complete to date.

sports trial sessionWednesday saw the first day of Sports Trials, around 450 Fresher’s hopped on the coaches out to both Harlington and Teddington to try out for the Hockey, Football, Lacrosse and Rugby teams.  It was a fantastic turnout and a great success with many good players being spotted.  Ethos was packed out with trials all afternoon also, with Swimming and Waterpolo, Badminton, Table Tennis, Fencing, Netball and Basketball all taking place, all of whom had great numbers participating.

So now the first week of term is over and with Freshers Fair and Freshers Sports Trials being a great success once again it is now time for the start of the fixture season.  BUCS Fixtures kicked off on Wednesday 10 October with all 6 of our Men’s Rugby teams in action as well as Imperial Netball 3rd.  The bulk of the sports action start on Wednesday 17 October so help get behind our teams and show them your support, the ones to watch are Rugby Men’s 1st and Lacrosse Women’s 1st who are both taking on Reading out at Harlington and Tennis Men’s 1st v LSE at Hyde Park Tennis Centre.  The new London University Sports League (LUSL) also starts this month with fixtures beginning on 22 October, let’s hope this new league brings our teams as much success as they had in ULU.

It has been a very successful start to the year so Good Luck to all the teams this season and look out for match day photos on our Facebook page!
