Match highlights: BUCS competition 2012-13 Week 13

Ethos saw a lot of nail-biting action this week with closely fought games in Netball and Table Tennis.

On the first action packed Wednesday of the year there were quite a few first teams in action in Ethos.  We were in attendance for the full Netball 1^st v St Barts 1^st match and it was set to be a close one with the teams sitting 2^nd and 3^rd in the BUCS South Eastern 3B league.  The match was tight from the start with end to end action throughout with some great plays and accurate shooting.  The first quarter ended with a slender Imperial 1 point lead (9-8) and as the pace picked up St Barts outscored Imperial taking a 18-16 lead into half time.  Imperial came back fighting in the 2^nd half outscoring their opponents but couldn’t quite finish the game off with a win, drawing the match 34-34.  Captain Poppy Pinnock said, “It was a great game and I thought we played really well under pressure, it’s just a shame we couldn’t quite pull off the win.  There were positive performances from everyone and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.  Also, can you please take our photo before we start playing next time...”

Over on 5^th court we saw Table Tennis Men’s 1^st take on Cambridge and the Women’s team playing Kings; the men started well against Cambridge taking the first 2 matches relatively comfortably, the next two pairings were a closer affair eventually being settled by a point in Cambridge’s favour which saw them level the match up at 2-2.  The match continued in this vain, however Cambridge found the winning points when it mattered, winning the match 10-7.  In a different tale of fortune the Women’s team came away with a 3-2 win against local rivals Kings levelling them on points in the league.
