Match highlights: BUCS competition 2012-13 Week 14
by Clare Smith
The Ladies have drawn a lot of focus this week with the Ladies Rugby, Hockey and Lacrosse teams all in action.
On a bitterly cold and windy day at Harlington Imperial Sports teams braved the elements to record some positive results.
Ladies Rugby have a hectic fixtures schedule to get through this term and they started brightly against
their Kings Medics counterparts in a slightly later 14.30 KO on the southside of Harlington. Some strong running and perseverance, particularly by Sammy Ardi, saw a number of Imperial breaks deep into KCLMS territory. The forwards were on form following up and touching the ball down with ease. The kicking game was on point as well with a 100% success rate, 5 conversions from 5 trys. KCLMS eventually made a mark on the score board when their captain made an explosive break through the defence on the line. This lead to an outburst of “don’t let her build up momentum, don’t be afraid, we have to make the hits” by scrum-half Katherine Fok. Despite this little set back the Ladies were clearly enjoying the game working hard for each other to see the result out 35-5.
Back on the north side Ladies Hockey were left frustrated with their 1-1 result against UCL. Despite looking very organised out of possession they ladies conceded late after themselves scoring quite late in the game. Club captain Maria Parkes commented “it’s a shame we couldn’t see it out, we were trying some new tactics today out of possession which we felt worked well. We will take this into our next fixture and look to build on it.”
The Ladies were followed by the Men’s 1st who had a BUCS conference cup game V Royal Holloway 1st. Well done to the lads on winning the match 3-2 and securing their place in the semi-finals!
Another positive cup result saw Lacrosse Ladies 2nd beat Hertfordshire 1st 9-6 equalling their league result from earlier in the season and seeing them through to another BUCS conference cup semi-final.
