Dr Joseph A. Morice (Chemistry 1965, PhD 1969)

Joe worked at Philips Research Laboratories, Redhill. From automation of experimental data collection he moved to an important role in mathematical and programming support, were he gained a reputation for rapid understanding and solution of the problems brought to him by researchers. In 1989 he took over management of the IT Department, dealing many key developments of computing at PRL. He retired early, unfortunately to die of cancer within three years in November 2006. He is survived by his wife, two children and five grandchildren.
