Welcome to Dr Samuel Odai
Professor Cedo Maksimovic and Dr Steve Smith were invited international experts in the UNESCO Workshop on "Closing the Urban Water Cycle" as a part of the project on Health and Safety of Urban Water Systems. The Workshop was held in Guanajuato, Mexico between 23-25th November.
Professor Maksimovic presented the UNESCO framework and the agenda of the Urban Water Cycle programme within the UNESCO International Programme - IHP VI and Dr Smith covered the topic Management of Biosolids in Urban Water Systems. The Workshop agreed on the action plan to improve management of health and safety. One of the deliverables will be a book on the topic covered by the event.
Professor Wheater gave a key-note address on The Hydrology of Wadi Systems to the 7th Gulf Water conference, held in Kuwait in November 2005.
Professor Howard Wheater was one of 25 leading international scientists invited to attend a meeting held by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on Water and the Environment, held in the Vatican, Rome in November.
Welcome to Dr Samuel Odai, Head of the Water Resources Research Group from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. Dr Odai is here on a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship from Oct 1 2005 to March 31 2006. He is doing collaborative work with Professor Howard Wheater and Dr Neil McIntyre on "rainfall-runoff modelling".
Dr Stephen Smith received an Award at the 10th European Biosolids and Biowastes Conference at Wakefield on 15 November for his outstanding contribution to the science, engineering and management of biosolids and organic residuals. The Award was presented by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management and Aqua Enviro Technology Transfer.
Dr Stephen Smith is also the international guest and keynote speaker at the Biosolids Specialty III Conference, 7-8 June, 2006, in Melbourne, organised by the Australian Water Association.
Congratulations to Jonathan Parkinson and Luiza (Campos) Parkinson on the birth of their daughter Anita on the 1st November 2005.
