Nizar Touzi , a Professor at Tanaka Business School, Imperial College London, has been awarded the prize for best young researcher of the year in recognition of the excellence of his growing body of research.
The Europlace Institute of Finance, based in Paris, annually bestows this important honour on young finance researchers. Its mission is to foster exchange between researchers and finance professionals and they were particularly drawn to Professor Touzi’s work on financial mathematics, applied to the financial markets, derivatives, optimal portfolio management, and the evaluation and control of risk. The Europlace Institute also awarded Professor Touzi the prize for best financial article of the year in 2005.
Tanaka Business School’s Finance and Accounting group, with its focus on quantitative finance, is now recognised as one of the strongest research groups of its kind in Europe. Researchers, such as Professor Touzi, are encouraged to work in close collaboration with their peers in Imperial College’s engineering and science faculties, exploring exciting new areas of research, and cascading this new knowledge through the School’s programmes.
Professor Touzi is currently exploring the interaction between financial mathematics and sustainable development. He uses the example of the creation of a market for CO2 permits as a classic way of using mathematical models to build efficient new regulations.
