Biologist in Queen's Birthday Honours list

Professor Georgina Mace FRS

Georgina Mace FRS has been made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her 'services to Environmental Science'. She joined the Biology Division in November 2006 as Professor of Conservation Science.

Georgina joined the Biology Division relatively recently as Professor of Conservation Science and Director of the NERC Centre for Population Biology. In addition to many other prizes, this award follows her award an OBE in 1998, and election to the Royal Society in 2002 (http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/people/g.mace).

Georgina has a wide reputation as both an excellent scientist and as somebody who can successfully turn science into policy, as evidenced by her long-standing work for the IUCN and her role as the coordinating author on the 'Biodiversity' section of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
