On the 5th June 2015, Cohort 5 presentation day saw the cohort reporting on their first year in the wilderness of their PhD research. The talks varied greatly in content; from building the next generation of atomic interferometers to the meaning of the Hermitian adjoint in quantum mechanics. However, one common theme was clear throughout the day and that was, “how can we greater understand and exploit quantum mechanics?”.
The students of Cohort 5 are spread across the UK, working in groups from Aberystwyth to Cambridge. After the long and intellectual talks and discussions with the directors and cohort mentors, the students took the rare opportunity to catch up and discuss many further important matters to the cohort.
Many of the students of Cohort 5 have already started tentatively publishing papers, tutoring undergraduates, and doing tasks expected of fully-fledged researchers. We can only expect more next year!
