DoC MEng student wins Flir's "Bring the heat: hacker and maker challenge"

Jacek Burys, DoC first year MEng student, was part of the winning team at Flir's "Bring the heat: hacker and maker challenge" in July.
Flir's "Bring the heat: hacker and maker challenge" took place in London over the weekend of 24-26th July. Flir has just released Flir One, a thermal camera that can be attached to smartphones. The goal of the hackathon was to develop an app or build something using the Flir One thermal camera’s sensor.
Jacek Burys attended the event, making a team with four others, that built a device wearable on the wrist that starts to beep when you are about to touch something hot- Hot Guard. This smart wearable has the potential to impact the lives of people with visual impairments as well as the safety of very young children. With Hot Guard Jacek and his team won the main prize at the event taking home $5000 and 5 thermal cameras. Congratulations Jacek and good luck with the future of Hot Guard.
