On Friday 25 September staff and students celebrated the end of the active lifestyle teams fifth Weight Management programme in style.

The programme, which runs for eight weeks educates and helps participants to develop a healthy eating habit and physical training exercise. The programme included nutrition seminars, two group personal training sessions a day, access to over 40 classes a week and on the spot fitness/diet advice to the 35 participants that took part.

In a fully personalised programme, all were tested at the beginning of the eight weeks where weight, body fat and BMI were all measured, then everyone’s daily intake of calories and macro nutrients were calculated by the Active Lifestyles Team. Each member was given recommendations about the best training sessions to attend encouraes to attend the IAmOne group personal training sessions and also other active lifestyle classes such as Insanity and spin.

Mid-way through the programme members got to take part in special challenges. From scaling the climbing wall to competing in a special swim session ran by our brilliant swimming instructors!

By the end of weight management with an amazing 40,000 calories burned between them each member managed to lose an average 5kgs each while knocking off three percent in body fat!

Mike's half marathonOne of the biggest success stories of Weight Management is Mike Mussard. Mike was reluctant to start his first weight management programme and had to be dragged to his first meeting by a colleague.

Now though, throughout his time on the project Mike has managed to lose an incredible 33Kgs in total (this year getting to under 90kgs for the first time!)

As well as completing the programme Mike has also completed  a number of fitness challenges which include two 10k races, a cycle ride from Ethos sports centre all the way to Oxford and just this weekend ran the 12 mile Tough Mudder challenge!

Mike has said before he started weight management he could barely run 400 metres without nearly passing out which makes his achievements all the more incredible!
