Inspiring the future female leaders in technology

DoC Teaching Fellow Dr Catarina Fernandes invited to become the Academic Leader for the Anita Borg Institute Local - London (ABI.London)

Department of Computing Teaching Fellow and Athena SWAN coordinator, Dr Catarina Fernandes has been invited to become the Academic Leader for the Anita Borg Institute Local - London (ABI.London) - focussing on supporting, inspiring and advancing female technologists in London.

Together with several ABI.London industry partners, Dr Fernandes organised a breakfast event on 21st January at the Bloomberg Offices in London - securing Emma McGuigan, Head of Technology at Accenture UK/I as the keynote speaker. The event was attended by women (and men) from industry, universities, charities, government departments, and students from across London. Since this successful event, Dr Fernandes has been contacted by several organisations wishing to collaborate with the Department to support women in technology – helping towards department goals of increasing female student numbers and working towards a silver Athena SWAN Award.

We look forward to building links and partnerships to support females at all stages of their student and professional lives and collaborating with further ABI.London events.
