In keeping with the current Olympic games, Imperial had its own share of Rio with a carnival themed staff support party on the Queen’s Lawn on Tuesday 19th July 2016.
There was a Caribbean two man steel band to gently usher in the guests as well as the most perfect summer day, warm, sunny and cloudless.
The active took part in the Olympic inspired activities and the brave attempted to do the limbo - not to be tried after eating !
There were offerings of hog roast, paella and chicken wraps with rice and beans Brazilian style as well as carnival cocktails.
Photo opportunities were on hand in the form of arcs of balloons in Brazillian colours and pretty Samba dancers in sequins and feathers. The excitement began with the two capoeira performers whose graceful martial arts ‘moves’ were both dangerous and skillful.
This was followed by the Samba dancers glistening and shimmying in the sun in all their feathered glory- the Queen’s Tower was never more exotic! The singer was superb and it was certainly the most successful of the Support staff parties so far.
Our physics support staff members certainly enjoyed it all.
