Linda Jones' Retirement Party - July 2016
The Physics department celebrated Linda's tremendous contribution and decades of devoted service with a party on the evening of Friday 8 July 2016.
The Physics department celebrated Linda’s tremendous contribution and decades of devoted service with a well fuelled and sparkling party on the evening of Friday 8 July. The high turnout of family, friends and colleagues filled the Blackett Common room with their appreciation and applause. Speeches of shared and fond memories and votes of thanks were made by Jordan Nash, Robin Smith, John Pendry, Jo Haigh, Jim Virdee and Michele Dougherty.
Glasses were raised in toasts to our former and well-loved DoM. It was very moving and certainly the end of an era in the department. Prominent among her gifts were a luxurious blue metallic suitcase for her future travels, a framed photo collage depicting the Queen’s Tower embellished with familiar faces from Physics and a special bottle of gin. Ash Jamdagni added a musical note with his saxophone. Brooke, Louise, Lucy and Sarah contributed significantly with the cocktails and the overall organisation. Linda spoke of her time here and thanked all those who helped her from her early days to the present time. Well done Linda and thank you for keeping an open door, ear and heart, we will certainly miss your caring, efficient, familiar and glamorous presence.
Note from Linda:
Many thanks, Meilin for this and indeed for all the contributions you have made over the years. We should get together and write a book; we have both been here long enough and I am sure we can come up with much, interesting and titillating material. Love to all – especially those friends, my children who constantly keep me on my toes and, importantly, keep me in perpetual penury. I do hope to continue coming in to see you all.
