Design Engineering student Anna Bernbaum designs an innovative new handle for the Gillette Venus range.
3D Hubs, Gillette and MakersCAFE held a summer competition to design and print an innovative new handle for one of the existing Gillette razor heads; Fusion, Mach3 or Venus.
Dyson School of Design Engineering undergraduate student Anna Bernbaum put her skills and knowledge to the test to re-design the handle for the Gillette Venus range with an aim of improving the overall in-hand comfort.
The final design beautifully combined ergonomics with elegance to create a razor handle which fit snugly in the palm of the hand. The handle featured a slight depression on the underside which indicated the ideal thumb placement, and a flat base which allowed it to stand upright when not in use, while the smooth organic shape of the handle gave it a modern aesthetic.
Anna made full use the opportunity, stating “I really enjoyed entering the competition as it allowed me to further practise my CAD skills and it was very quick and easy to enter”. Her amazing prototype was awarded 2nd place and went on display at the RZR MKR pop-up shop in Shoreditch.
