Gwen's an Engineering Showoff!
In December I did a comedy gig with 6 other engineers to raise money for Engineers without Borders.
Having done a fair bit of outreach in the past, when I saw the advertisement for Engineering Showoff I thought, "Wow that looks brilliant but also very scary; making science funny for 9 minutes is not the easiest task." Never one to let fear stop me doing something new, I signed up! I was given excellent support by Steve Cross (the person who runs these and other Showoff related events, see link below) and my fellow engineers who were performing; it felt like we were all in it together.
When I got on stage I was extremely nervous but the crowd were very supportive and it gave me such a confidence boost that 2 minutes in I was loving it. I would encourage everyone to do this it has really helped with my presentation skills and general confidence. I honestly never thought I would ever be able to do anything like this!
