CMS/Upgrade - New Improved Content Editor

ICT plan to roll out a new version of the Content Editor, together with a revised icon bar, to all College PCs on Friday 21 September.

ICT plan to roll out a new version of the Content Editor (eWebEditPro), together with a revised icon bar, to all College PCs on Friday 21 September.

The new version has these features:

 - Compatible with Windows Vista

 - Compatible with Firefox up to version 1.5.0.12 on Windows

 - When you create a hyperlink which opens in a new window in future, the 'new window' graphic will not be inserted. Instead the source code will create a 'title' for the link which advises users that it opens in a new window. We intend to run a program to change as many existing new window links as we can identify to this new way. The 'new window' icon will disappear from the list of Add-Ins.

 - When you create a hyperlink to a page in Portal CMS, the format of the URL will be e.g. "/portal/page/portallive/0FDF9D27F0AF43D0E0440003BACD13A5 instead of the old 'DAD' format e.g. "/portal/page/portallive/2CBCA53B6BCE029CE0440003BADBDCAF"

 - Bug fixes to the Hyperlink Wizard:
o        When you use 'Find', the list of websites will appear in alphabetical order, regardless of case.
o        The navigation tree shown for the selected site will show all pages regardless of whether they are hidden in the navigation settings
o        The current site and page will be the default position for the page selection
o        The superfluous space which is currently appended to some hyperlinks will no longer appear.

 - The Redtext button will clear redtext tags if clicked when the selected text already has redtext applied.

 - There will be a new icon called 'Documents' which will take you into the Content Services document management system. You will not be able to load documents into this system until the Web Team have set up a folder for your site. We are rolling this out in stages across the faculties and departments and will notify site owners when their folders are ready. Until you have a folder in Content Services Suite, you should continue to use the existing File Upload icon to add documents.

 - A link to the 'Access' page property tab will be added above the icon bar. Click this to go to the Access properties and make the required changes. When you click OK on the Access page to save changes, you will be returned to the Content Editor.

 - The URL of the page you are editing will be displayed above the icon bar.

The new editor should load automatically, but if not you will have to go through the steps to install it. If you do not have administrator rights on your PC, you will need to ask the Service Desk to give you the rights to do this.

Please report any problems with this upgrade to the Service Desk
