Ten bright ideas win Imperial Ideas Challenge, 12 December 2005

Winners of the 2005 Ideas Challenge were announced at a prize giving event on 8 December.

Innovative medical techniques, technologies and services, as well as a safer way to pay for retail purchases, were just some of the ingenious ideas winning their creators a £1,000 prize at this year's Imperial College Ideas Challenge, the first stage in the Imperial College £55k Entrepreneurs' Challenge.

The ten winners and ten runners-up of the 2005 Ideas Challenge were awarded their prizes at a Prize Giving event celebrating their achievement. Other winning ideas included new technology to replace steel reinforcements, an online ticketing service for large functions, hand-made, socially-conscious room accessories and a novel reusable nappy and washing system.

Each of the Ideas Challenge winners receives a £1,000 prize, while 10 runners-up each receive £250. For a complete list of prize winners and their inventive ideas, visit the Entrepreneurs' Challenge page at the Entrepreneurship Centre.

Keynote speaker at the event was entrepreneur extraordinaire Karan Bilimoria, CBE DL, founder and Chief Executive of Cobra Beer, one of the UK's fastest growing drinks brands.

Guest speakers were Concrete Canvas, previous winners of the Entrepreneurs' Challenge, who have since won nine other awards and attracted the interest of several investors.

The Ideas Challenge is the first stage of the Entrepreneurs' Challenge, the two-stage business plan competition open to all Imperial students. Now in its sixth year, the competition is organised by the Entrepreneurship Centre, Tanaka Business School.
