Alumni and students gathered at the Hotel Le Meridien Piccadilly

Every year Imperial's Mathematics and Finance MSc alumni come together to share their expertise and experiences.

170 students, alumni and academic staff from the MSc Mathematics & Finance course were welcomed to the Hotel Le Meridien Piccadilly on 22 November for the course’s annual event. The event has taken place annually since 2014 and offers an informative and enjoyable networking opportunity for current students, alumni and industry representatives.

The MSc, which has been running since 2001, is designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in quantitative finance and risk management, and its graduates often find employment in both the huge and small ends of the industry, from some of the world’s biggest banks and to some of the smallest boutique hedge funds.

Guests enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a Q&A discussion with alumni panellists Dr Sergey Badikov (MSc 2012, PhD 2017) and Guy Bowles (MSc 2002), who provided valuable advice and insight from their own experiences working in the financial sector.

Co-Director of the course, Professor Damiano Brigo, commented:

It has been beneficial for current students to meet and interact with their alumni counterparts who graduated either recently or a while back. This gives current students a sense of perspective and allows alumni to stay connected with the program, both in terms of feedback, general knowledge and in terms of internship and hiring opportunities. It is clear that the industry views our program and the imperial family more generally as leading players in the higher education and research arena for quantitative finance, and the alumni meeting remains an ideal opportunity to strengthen this vital link with the industry. Alumni particularly appreciated our continued development of the program to meet the industry evolution and challenges.”
