Six of our Department's undergraduate students have won prestigious IET scholarships.

These scholarships will support them during their studies and prepare them for their future careers

IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarships

Preet Lalli and Tarik Ourida, both first year Electronic and Information Engineering students have been awarded IET’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarships for students entering an electrical and electronic engineering degree course in Autumn 2017. The scholarships are supported by BT and will provide Preet and Tariq with at least £1,000 per academic year. They will also benefit from mentoring and work experience placements through the IET’s extensive networks. Tariq says: "Winning the IET diamond scholarship allows me to attend events where I can network with people from BT and gain an insight into the working life in the telecommunications industry. The scholarship will also give me access to internships with BT in the future.”

Preet says that the scholarship ‘will hopefully give me an invaluable insight into real-world engineering practices. I am looking forward to the opportunities the scholarship will offer me, in particular, networking and internships."

IET Power Academy Scholarships

The Power Academy Scholarships allow high achieving electrical and electronic engineering students at partner universities to connect with a leading employer in the power sector.  The scholarships provide some financial support, company placements and mentorship for students looking to work in the power industry. Scholarships have been awarded to first years Noe Guisset and Adam Urban, and second years Styliana Elia and Yasmin Baba.  Noe’s scholarship is with Western Power Distribution, Adam’s is with Rolls-Royce. Styliana will be working with RWE Generation, and Yasmin with Siemens Wind Power.

The Department has been a member of the Power Academy since its foundation. The scholarships schemes have provided valuable opportunities for our students and launched a number of them on their chosen career path.  We are proud to continue our collaboration with this scheme.

Our courses were recently re-accredited by the IET, which assures the provision of high-quality degree programmes that provide an ideal preparation for aspiring professional engineers.

Congratulations to all students, we look forward to watching their success in the years to come.
