Mr James M. Chester (Civil and Environmental Engineering 1928)

James Chester was born on 6 January 1907, he died on 11 May 2007, aged 100. James went to Latimer School in Hammersmith, and after a family move went to Bournemouth School.
1925-27 Univercity College Southampton, 1927-28 Imperial College London, 1928-30 Southern Railway (Docks Department), 1930-31 (Francois) Cementation Co. Ltd., 1931-35 Poole Borough Council, 1935-39 Ealing Borough Council, 1939-41 Hornsey Borough Council, 1941-42 Wembley Borough Council, 1942-46 CE. in C. Dept. Admiralty, 1946-49 Southgate Borough Council, 1949-64 Hackney Metropolitan Borough Council, 1964-72 Tottenham (which became Haringey) Borough Council, 1972 retired as Chief Assistant Engineer.
James married in 1934, he had three children, all boys. Folloowing in his footsteps, Michael became an electromechanical engineer, David became an aeronautical engineer and I became a mechanical engineer.
When James and Cissie celebrated their Diamon Wedding they received a message from the Queen, and another when they celebrated their sixty-fifth anniversary. James received his third card from the Queen on reaching 100. He had eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren of which he was very proud.
