CMS/Upgrades - CMS changes after 10.1.4

Details of changes in CMS following upgrade to Portal version 10.1.4 over weekend 24-26 March 2006

Portal 10.1.4 - CMS Differences

  1. Friendly ('human-readable') URLs now displayed e.g. http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/ICT/services/website/pwpquickstart. Note that apart from the site name which may be mixed-case, the rest of the URL is shown in lower-case. However you can use mixed-case URLs to access pages if you wish. You can use www.imperial.... rather than www3.imperial... if you prefer. You no longer need to use the crumb trail to work out the friendly URL for a page.

  2. Page naming on creation/rename - 'Name' field must not contain capital letters.

When creating a page, enter the required name into 'Display Name' as all lower-case i.e. a-z, 0-9 but with no spaces or special characters. Once the page is created go into Edit, then Page Properties, and set the Display Name to the required display value i.e. with capitals, spacing and other punctuation.

When renaming, this is a valid way to set the page properties:

  3. Need to Clear Cache (link above page footer) to see updated page

  4. Content items > 4000 chars generate new versions when updated instead of overwriting existing versions. You may wish to remove these additional version.
These are the steps to remove versions:
    1. Go into Edit (not Edit Content)
    2. Click on the Actions icon (clogs) against the relevant item.
    3. Select Versions from the list of actions. Delete the non-required versions. This marks the items as deleted but doesn't actually purge them.
    4. In the Edit view of the page, click on List View (top left).
    5. Click on Purge Deleted Items box bottom right.
    6. Click on Graphical View (top left) to see the page in the normal Edit view.
    7. Now when you go into Edit Content you should just see the version(s) you have left.

We have had to put a temporary workaround in place since the recent upgrade whereby Content items containing more then 4000 characters generate a new version each time they are updated. We are working with Oracle to sort this out and hope it will only be for a couple of weeks longer. So you will see more versions than previously.

  5. Reduced maximum size of Content items.
The Content Editor fails to save changes if the item is more than approximately 24,000 characters. Previously, the limit was 32,000 characters. If you get a warning message when trying to save changes to a large item, you will have to create an additional Content item on the page, and split the content between them.

  6. Different warning message when deleting pages e.g.

You are about to delete the page: HJ958. This will delete the page, its sub-pages, and all the items on these pages, including items that are checked out and items in an open state, such as files currently open in a WebDAV client.

  7. Different look for page heading in Edit view.

  8. https support discontinued
