Nominations for the Imperial Alumni Awards are now open, once again shining a light on outstanding members of the alumni community.

Now in their third year, the awards recognise exceptional professional and academic achievements in three categories and present an opportunity for the College to acknowledge role models and thought-leaders within the alumni community.

Alumni from all backgrounds and industries can be nominated.

Reflecting on winning the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2021, UN Ambassador Yvette Stevens (MSc Electrical Power Systems and Machines 1974) says, "I was excited and very pleased. It wasn’t something I was expecting. Being an Imperial alumnus is special to me so getting this award was a great thing for me."

The Distinguished Alumni Award honours alumni who have demonstrated sustained excellence in their personal and professional achievements, are leaders in their field or have made a substantial impact on society.

Dr Abdullah Albeyatti (MBBS Medicine 2011), Winner of the 2021 Emerging Alumni Leader Award which celebrates the next generation of leaders who have graduated from Imperial in the last 15 years, shared Yvette’s sentiment: "Getting this award makes me feel like I did deserve to graduate from Imperial. It makes me feel like I represent the university well and continue to be an ambassador. I feel fulfilled knowing I used my time well at Imperial and it helped me get to where I am today."

"Winning this award is probably my proudest moment. I don’t think my friends and family will realise just how important it is to me." Dr Abdullah Albeyatti (MBBS Medicine 2011) Winner of the Emerging Alumni Leader Award 2021

Launched in late 2019, the Alumni Awards programme raise awareness of the contributions of Imperial graduates to science, engineering, medicine, business and society.

Nicola Pogson, Director of Alumni Relations at Imperial, said: "We launched the Alumni Awards to recognise those alumni who are game-changers, disruptors and problem solvers. Those people who have the courage to take risks, who lead change, who collaborate to make things better."

Last year, the award categories were expanded to include the Alumni Entrepreneur Award, which recognises innovative and creative alumni entrepreneurs who can demonstrate commercial success, growth and impact, to reflect the diversity of achievements within the College's alumni community.
