New Faculty Appointments at Tanaka Business School

David Begg, Professor of Economics and Principal of Tanaka Business School, announces the appointment of ten new members of Faculty.

New Faculty Appointments

Teaching and research are at the heart of Tanaka Business School. Students and graduates reap the benefits of faculty members' experiences and insights. From classroom lectures to seminars and informal chats faculty members and students work together to expand the boundaries of business knowledge and theory.

This year we are delighted to welcome the following new Faculty members:

Gilles Chemla
Reader, Corporate Finance
A native of France, Gilles obtained degrees in mathematics and engineering before completing a PhD at the London School of Economics in 1997. Since then, he has been Assistant Professor of Finance at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. An accomplished teacher, his research focuses mainly on shareholder agreements, corporate venture capital, incentive issues in the dynamic allocation of investment funds and the governance of small firms.

Annabelle Gawer
Lecturer, Technology Strategy
Since earning a PhD from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2000, Annabelle has been an Assistant Professor of Strategy at INSEAD, where her teaching and research focused specifically on the strategic management of innovation. Annabelle’s areas of expertise include Platform Leadership and she has examined in depth how companies, including Intel, Microsoft and Cisco, drive the process of innovation. Born in France, she holds MSc degrees in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and Applied Mathematics from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (University of Paris).

Paul Klumpes
Professor, Accounting
Paul joins Tanaka Business School as Professor of Accounting from Nottingham University. Dr Klumpes has previously held posts at Warwick University, Strathclyde University, Lancaster University Management School and Australia National University in Canberra, and has a background in accountancy and financial services. Dr Klumpes holds degrees in commerce from the University of New South Wales where he also completed his PhD. Additionally, Professor Klumpes has an LLB law degree. His research work has been widely published in academic journals.

Robert MacCulloch
Professor, Public Economics
Robert joins the School from Princeton University where he was an expert on the welfare state, the economics of happiness, political economy and behavioural economics. Born in New Zealand, Robert studied mathematics and finance before earning a DPhil in economics from Oxford University in 1998 for an analysis of the structure of the welfare state. His work has been widely published, not only in economics journals but also in legal and sociological publications.

Namrata Malhotra 
Lecturer, Organisational Behaviour
Namrata joins from the School of Management, Queensland University of Technology. Born in India Namrata completed her PhD in Organisational Analysis at the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research and teaching have focussed on areas of Organisation Theory and Strategy. She has developed a strong research programme examining the management of strategic change in professional service organisations.


William Perraudin,
Professor, Finance
Born in the UK, William studied literature and history before earning an MSc in applied mathematics and a PhD in economics at Harvard University. He comes to the School from Birkbeck College London, where, as Professor of Finance, he led a very successful MSc Finance programme. He is Special Advisor on Financial Regulation to the Bank of England, as well as one of the key academic advisors to the Basel Committee on the future of global banking regulation. Much of his research concerns asset pricing and the regulation of financial institutions.

Jaideep Prabhu
Professor, Marketing
Born in India, Jaideep graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1989, before earning a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 1995. He specialises in Marketing Strategy, Radical Innovation, Organisational Learning and Competitive Interaction. Jaideep joins us from The Judge Institute of Management, Cambridge University, where he was acknowledged as a gifted teacher, as well as a researcher whose work has been published in the Journal of Marketing and other leading publications.

Ammon Salter
Senior Lecturer, Innovation Studies
A Canadian citizen, Ammon holds a BA in Political Science from Concordia University in Montreal . After earning a DPhil in Technology Policy from Sussex University in 1999, Ammon became a Research Fellow at Sussex , where he focused on the role of innovation in the build environment. In January 2003, he and several colleagues moved to Imperial to help found the Innovation Studies Centre - a joint venture between the Engineering Faculty and the Business School. As Senior Lecturer in Innovation Studies, Ammon will help deliver Tanaka Business School ’s commitment to be at the forefront of hi-tech management education.

Catarina Sismeiro
Lecturer, Marketing Research
Born in Portugal , Catarina has a degree in economics and earned a PhD in Marketing Research from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA in 2002. Her work has been published in the world’s premier journal of marketing research, acknowledging that she is one of the outstanding scholars of her generation. Catarina’s areas of research include brand performance, e-commerce, website browsing and the role of customer discounts. She joins the School from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California , where, as an Assistant Professor, her courses have been very popular with students.

Miranda Wai
Lecturer, Accounting
Miranda joins us from the University of Rutgers in New Jersey. Dr Wai specialises in mergers and acquisitions and bidding. Miranda was born in Hong Kong and holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Rutgers.
