Congratulations to Dr Elena De Vita on being shortlisted for the L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science UK and Ireland rising talents awards

In April 2022, the L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO UK announced the shortlisted candidates for this year’s L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science UK and Ireland rising talents awards, revealing that Elena from the Tate group had been selected as a finalist for the topic of Life Sciences. This prestigious programme annually awards five excellent women scientists in the UK with a £15 000 award to be used flexibly to support their academic career needs. The programme is very competitive with over 200 applications received this year. Candidates are selected on the basis of their academic records and on the relevance and impact of their planned research.

Elena’s project proposes to develop innovative bifunctional molecules that repurpose a specific cellular process to create new therapeutic paradigms which could be effective against cancer.

The award winners were announced on 24th May at the award reception. This was held at the House of Commons in Westminster.

Congratulations on making the shortlist and being nominated as a highly commended candidate, Elena! The news item detailing the full story was released on 27th May.
