The appointment will take effect on Saturday 1 October 2022, for an initial term of five years.  Professor Heutz joined the College in 2007 as Lecturer Designate and Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow, and was promoted to Professor of Functional Molecular Materials in 2018. She has been the Imperial Co-Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology since 2020.    Professor Heutz’s research is focused on the fabrication and advanced characterization of molecular thin films and nanostructures, and their application in spintronic, optoelectronic and quantum technologies.

On accepting the appointment, Professor Heutz said:

"I have been a member of this department for 15 years and have always felt lucky to work in such a vibrant, supportive and cutting-edge environment. It is a huge privilege to take on as Head of Department to build on these strong bases, and to further strengthen our excellence in research and teaching."
