BCS Roger Needham Award for Computer Science Excellence
In recognition of academic excellence and innovation, Professor Ruth Misener from the Department of Computing at Imperial College London has been honored with the 2023 BCS Roger Needham Award. This prestigious accolade, presented by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, celebrates Professor Misener's exceptional contributions to computer science, particularly at the intersection of computational optimization and machine learning.
Professor Misener's influential work, focusing on the development of cutting-edge software and optimization algorithms, is pivotal in advancing energy-efficient engineering and biomedical systems. Her research, characterized by a blend of deep scientific knowledge and practical applicability, stands at the forefront of technological advancements in these critical areas.
Upon receiving the award, Professor Misener expressed her gratitude and emphasized the collaborative nature of her achievements: “I’m honoured to be recognised in this way and receiving this accolade is wonderful though it could only have been achieved through the support and collaboration of my excellent colleagues.”
The Needham Award will be formally presented to Professor Misener on January 10, 2024, at a special event hosted at BCS’ London offices.
