Chemistry of Light: A Taster Lecture for Prospective Students at Imperial

by

Demonstration

Dr. Benji Fenech-Salerno and Dr. Rebecca Jones delivered an engaging demonstration for the students.

On Monday 27 January we welcomed 60 prospective students from India to the department for a taster lecture delivered by Dr Benji Fenech-Salerno and Dr Rebecca Jones.

In this session, the students explored the different connections between light and Chemistry. The practical demonstrations conducted showed how light can be used as a probe, a driver for change but also how it can be produced as the product of a chemical reaction.

The event supported students from India coming to the UK for a tour of various institutions including LSE and Oxford organised by the IIMUN group in India.  This is a group of very able students across India who take part in international events and conferences.  The organiser was encouraged to visit Imperial by our Chairman, Manvinder Singh Banga.

The students really enjoyed the lecture and we received great feedback from the group leaders who said that the students loved the session and were talking about the demo in the ride back to the hotel!
